It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt, offended or arrested. Halloween is a fun time to get dressed up, however, you must take caution and have a bit of common sense when it comes to traveling in costume. While TSA and the airlines may get in on the fun as well, there are some do’s and don’ts and costumes you should steer clear from.
Fake weapons are a definite no-no. First, they may not look so fake and even if they are fake they will be confiscated and you could be detained, so it’s best not to carry them. I’m talking about toy guns, knives, hand grenades or any other toy weapon.
For your costume, remember TSA must see your face so don’t wear a mask. The airlines and shops at the airport may also frown upon masks or at least ask you to remove it at some point.
Dressing as the opposite sex or altering your appearance is also an issue, remember, you must look like your photo ID.
If you are thinking of dressing up like a police officer, remember, impersonating a law enforcement officer is illegal every day of the year.
A costume that pokes fun at or mimics an ethnic group could be offensive and insight a conflict.
Certainly, dressing up like a Suicide bomber is not funny and could land you in big trouble!
If you are flying on Halloween and want to have a bit of fun for the day, keep it light and consider a costume that will put a little smile on someones face.
