Itinerary (Subject to change)

22 March

Depart the United States on your transatlantic overnight flight to Johannesburg. See the flight itinerary above.

23 March

Arrive in Johannesburg and transfer to our hotel and home, The Sandton Sun, for three nights in Johannesburg. Check-in, and this is a good evening to acclimate and recover from the long flight. Enjoy a welcome reception to get to know each other and have a free evening. Sandton is known for its affluence and is the most important business and financial district in South Africa. It is also great for shopping, dining, and nightlife. The Sandton Sun is connected to one of Africa’s top malls and entertainment areas, which are used for dining, nightlife, and shopping.

24 March

After a sumptuous breakfast at the hotel, meet in the lobby for a tour of Soweto, including a church visit. Soweto is a township that emanated from Black people being forcefully re-settled far away from the city during the gold rush era.

On this tour, we drive past contrasting settlements while being told their history. Drive on Vilakazi Street, the most famous street in the whole world, which used to be home to two NOBEL Peace Prize Winners (Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu). Visit the home of Nelson Mandela, which is now a museum. Visit the site of the 1976 student uprising, The Hector Peterson Memorial. Sit for an African lunch at a trendy Restaurant in Soweto. Later, return to the hotel, relax, and enjoy the evening. (B,L)

25 March

After a buffet breakfast, we’ll depart for a tour of Constitution Hall and the Apartheid Museum.

No visit to South Africa is complete without a visit to the world-famous Apartheid Museum. The Apartheid Museum opened in 2001 and is acknowledged as the pre-eminent museum in the world dedicated to 20th-century South Africa, at the heart of which is the apartheid story.

This museum is a must-visit for one to understand what the real apartheid South Africa was like. It is a beacon of hope showing the world how the country is coming to terms with its oppressive past and building on the future. The day includes lunch in a fashionable Sandton Restaurant, then return to the hotel for a free evening. (B,L)

26 March

After a buffet breakfast, check out and transfer to Pilanesberg National Park Via Lesedi Cultural Village.

Lesedi Cultural Village is situated within the Cradle of Humankind, a World Heritage Site home to the earliest traces of humanity. Lesedi is the living custodian of Africa’s history and rich culture. This guided tour of the Lesedi Cultural Village offers the opportunity to experience the cultural traditions of several different peoples of Southern Africa. The tour includes visits to villages, shows, and lunch.

Then onward to the Sun City Hotel and Pilanesberg National Park. Located on the slopes of a 2-billion-year-old volcano, it is home to Africa’s “Big Five.” Relax by the pool, go for a late afternoon game drive, try to spot Africa’s “Big Five”, and enjoy a Boma dinner. Pilanesburg offers unparalleled comfort in a malaria-free area. Sun City is a luxury resort and casino situated in the North West Province of South Africa. It is located between the Elands River and borders the Pilanesberg National Park. Our two-night stay will be at the Sun City Hotel, Sun City. (B,L,D)

27 March

Sunrise Game Drive to see some of the thousands of animals that call South Africa home, followed by a buffet breakfast. Free time to relax and enjoy the lodge amenities, then a free day, followed by an afternoon game drive to finalize your list of animals you hope to see. Relax at the bar or enjoy everything Sun City has to offer, including the shops, entertainment complex, and casino. (B)

28 March

After a buffet breakfast, check out and transfer to the airport for your flight to Cape Town.

Arrive in Cape Town and transfer to our hotel and home, The TAJ Cape Town for 4 nights in Cape Town. Check-in.

All travelers are welcome to join us for a welcome reception. The Taj Cape Town resides in the heart of the city center, occupying a splendid historical edifice that once housed the South African Reserve Bank. The meticulously restored interior exudes stately refinement, featuring magnificent marble stonework, fluted columns, high ceilings, and art deco touches.  A beautiful hotel in the heart of Cape Town. (B)

29 March

After breakfast at the hotel, depart on a Full-day Cape Peninsula Tour, including  Chapmans Peak Drive, Cape Point, a Funicular ride to the lighthouse, and Boulders Penguin Colony in Simonstown. See the famous African Penguins and the Cape of Good Hope.

We’ll stop for a seafood lunch during our tour.

Return to Cape Town and our hotel for a free evening. (B,L)

30 March

After breakfast at the hotel, depart on a Full-day tour of Table Mountain a new member of the Natural Wonders of the World, with a magnificent view of the Cape Peninsula, high above the city.  After, we will travel to the famous South African wine region to enjoy lunch and wine tasting. Later we return to Cape Town and our hotel for a free evening. (B,L)

31 March

After breakfast, depart for the Robben Island Ferry terminal, a full tour of Robben Island and the former prison that housed Nelson Mandela and other fighters against Apartheid.  Your tour guide will be an actual former political prisoner. After, enjoy a leisurely visit to the V&A Waterfront and mall to enjoy one of Cape Town’s top malls, shopping, and entertainment areas, directly on the Atlantic Ocean.
