May 5: Upon arrival, we’ll meet our local team to transfer to our hotel for our four-night stay in Cape Town. After check-in, the group will come together for a welcome reception.

Be sure to get a good night’s rest. You’ll need all the energy you can get for the amazing journey ahead!

May 6: Cape Town – Robben Island                     

After a satisfying breakfast, we’ll depart the hotel for our day’s adventure.

The day begins with a visit to Robben Island. The ferry ride to Robben Island takes about 20 minutes from the waterfront terminal. Once on the island, a guide will lead a tour of the prison, followed by a tour of the island itself.

Robben Island, the former prison where Nelson Mandela and other anti-Apartheid activists were held, offers a unique and moving experience. The island has a rich history, and the opportunity to hear about the prison’s history from a former political prisoner is incredibly powerful.

We will return to the Waterfront in the afternoon to transfer to your hotel.

The group will gather for an evening dining experience at Gold Restaurant. The evening will include lively entertainment, a drumming session, and a tasting tour of African cuisine.

May 7: District Six – Winery

After breakfast at the hotel, we will visit District Six and the District Six Museum.

District Six, before its destruction under Apartheid, was a community that showcased diversity in various aspects such as language, religion, economic class, and geographical origin. It served as a testament to how diversity can strengthen a community and need not be feared. This vibrant community was home to formerly enslaved people, merchants, artisans, laborers, and immigrants and had strong connections to the city and the port. It stood in stark contrast to the values of the Apartheid government. However, on February 11, 1966, the government declared District Six a whites-only area under the Group Areas Act, leading to the removal of residents starting in 1968. By 1982, over 60,000 people had been forced to leave. The old houses were demolished, leaving the land vacant.

Following our visit to District Six, we will head to South Africa’s wine country for wine tasting and lunch. While numerous options are available, we prefer to focus on Black-owned wine brands and collectives. The Wine Arc is a notable location in this regard, serving as a platform for wine brands to establish robust business operations and gain better access to markets and e-commerce facilities, catering to a distinct consumer sector. Additionally, it functions as an innovation hub for entrepreneurs and young winemakers, supporting their growth and sustainability.

May 8: Full-day Cape Peninsula Tour

After breakfast at the hotel, depart on a full-day Cape Peninsula Tour, including Table Mountain, Chapmans Peak Drive, Cape Point, and Boulders Penguin Colony in Simonstown.

The Cape Peninsula is a famous natural landmark in Cape Town, extending 18 miles from Table Mountain to the southernmost tip of Cape Town. It is part of the Table Mountain National Park, one of the NEW 7 WONDERS OF NATURE, known for its remarkable biodiversity. The Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve covers the rocky headland. It is home to various wildlife, such as antelopes, baboons, ostriches, the rare Cape Mountain zebra, and marine birds, with 250 recorded bird species in the reserve. Additionally, we will stop for a seafood lunch by the seaside.

May 9: Cape Town to Pilanesberg

After breakfast at the hotel, you will pack your bag for the next leg of your journey. After our morning flight to Johannesburg, we will hit the road to Pilanesberg.

Pilanesberg National Park is a malaria-free game reserve near Johannesburg, housing over 7,000 animals and 360 bird species. Among the fascinating game reserves of Southern Africa, the park is possibly the most accessible. This vast area promises thrilling big-game viewing in the ecologically rich transition zone between the Kalahari and the Lowveld.

You can enjoy accommodations at a Safari Lodge immersed in the Pilanesberg National Park during your stay. Your experience will begin with an afternoon sunset game drive and an evening boma in the true South African tradition.

May 10: Pilanesberg

Rise with the sun for an early morning game drive. After our sunrise game drive, we’ll return to the lodge for breakfast and a free day to explore the area on our own.

May 11: Pilanesberg to Johannesburg/Lesedi Cultural Village

On our way to Johannesburg, we will stop at the Lesedi Cultural Village for an authentic cultural experience. This well-known village is in the heart of the African bushveld, surrounded by rocky hills within the Cradle of Humankind, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the rich cultures and traditions of South Africa by visiting five traditional homesteads representing the Zulu, Xhosa, Pedi, Basotho, and Ndebele tribes. Each homestead reflects the tribal folklore and traditions of its respective ancestors. As they say at Lesedi, “Our culture is the light of our nation. Whoever walks amongst our cultures at Lesedi can also see the light.”

This afternoon, we will check in to our hotel in Sandton, an upscale suburb of Johannesburg, and then have an evening at leisure.

May 12: Soweto

After breakfast at the hotel, meet in the lobby to depart for Soweto.

On this tour, we drive past contrasting settlements while being told their history. We drive on Vilakazi Street, the world’s most famous street home to two Nobel Peace Prize Winners (Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela). We will visit Nelson Mandela’s home, which is now a museum. We visit the site of the 1976 student uprising, the Hector Peterson Memorial. We enjoy lunch at a local restaurant serving traditional Soweto Food.

For over two decades, we have led tours and programs to South Africa, allowing us to connect with various communities. Each visit leaves a positive impact and provides us with memorable experiences. Our support for the community is centered around the church, where we engage with parishioners and other community members. We assist seniors on fixed incomes, provide students with uniforms and school supplies, supply young women with feminine hygiene products, and contribute to much-needed repairs for the church. We look forward to involving your group in this ongoing tradition of giving.

May 13: Constitution Hill/Apartheid Museum

After a sumptuous breakfast at the hotel, meet in the lobby for a tour of Constitution Hill, a living museum that tells the story of South Africa’s journey to democracy. The site is a former prison and military fort that bears testament to South Africa’s turbulent past and, today, is home to the country’s Constitutional Court, which endorses the rights of all citizens. The Apartheid Museum is a must-visit for one to understand what the real Apartheid South Africa was like. It is a beacon of hope, showing the world how the country is coming to terms with its oppressive past and building on the future.

May 14: Pretoria

After breakfast, depart for Pretoria, also known as Tshwane. Pretoria is South Africa’s administrative capital, the seat of the executive branch of government, and the host to all foreign embassies in South Africa.

This evening is time to relax, pack, and prepare for tomorrow’s departure to Zambia. ________________________________________________________________________________

May 15: Flight to Zambia (Livingstone)

Today, after breakfast,  we will transfer to O.R. Tambo airport for your flight to Livingstone, Zambia.

This evening, you will enjoy one of the most magical safari experiences under the African sun—a river safari. As the light softens and the wildlife heads to the Zambezi River for their last drink of the day, your two-hour late afternoon game-viewing cruise begins.

May 16: Victoria Falls

Today, after breakfast, we’ll visit Victoria Falls.

The Kololo tribe living in the area in the 1800s described it as ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ – ‘the Smoke that Thunders’—and in more modern terms as ‘the greatest known curtain of falling water.’ Victoria Falls is a spectacular sight of awe-inspiring beauty and grandeur on the Zambezi River, bordering Zambia and Zimbabwe.

A path along the forest’s edge provides the visitor, who is prepared to brave the tremendous spray, with an unparalleled series of views of the Falls. One vantage point is across the knife-edge bridge, where visitors can have the finest view of the Eastern Cataract, the Main Falls, and the Boiling Pot, where the river turns and heads down to the Batoka Gorge.

Other vantage points include the Falls Bridge and the Lookout Tree, which commands a panoramic view across the Main Falls. Different times of the year provide entirely different experiences of the Falls region.

May 17: Zambia Your Way

As this is the last day of your journey, what better way to spend it than your way? The options are plentiful. You can spend a day at the spa, enjoy the amenities at the resort, go on a safari, or sleep in late and lounge around the pool.

After breakfast, we will head to Livingstone Airport for a flight to Johannesburg and the US.

Payment Schedule: Not adhering to the payment schedule can result in late payment fees, cancellation without notice, and/or rate increases.

• 2nd payment of 33% of the package is due by October 14, 2024

• Full and final payment is due by March 20, 2025

Change/Cancellation: Notice of change/cancellation must be made in writing to Advantage International, LLC, and your change/cancellation date will be the date we receive your notice. A name change is allowed up to 46 days before the trip’s departure date. A name change can be requested 45 days or less before the departure date, but it is not guaranteed; additional fees will apply. All changes are subject to availability and applicable rate differences. Your decision not to participate in the Tour due to State Department warnings, fear of travel, or the like will be deemed a cancellation. If a flight or another delay for any reason prevents you from joining the Tour on the Tour start date, you will be considered a no-show, and we cannot provide a full or partial refund or credit toward a future Tour, but you may join the Tour late with advance notice if you wish.
